首先我要非常感謝主持人撒貝寧,感謝欄目組邀請我到中國,也感謝你們邀請我參加今天這個節目,給大家分享一下我生命當中的故事。我想給大家分享的可能不僅僅是關于籃球,其實可以運用到大家的工作和生活當中。無論你從事何種職業,只要有夢就要專心致志地去追,去尋找你的夢想去追求它。
我在密歇根底特律的平民家庭長大,我的父親是一個言語不多的人,他是個商人,我父親告訴過我很重要的一點,也是我從他身上看到的,父親教會我,每天都要為夢想竭盡全力。那就是每天他起床穿戴衣服之后,他會告訴他自己,無論你是生病了還是你覺得勞累了,但是他總會竭盡全力。
很多人認為我是某天醒來發現自己突然長到2米05,我可以打進nba也是很自然的事兒,但沒有人認識到成為nba球員靠的是恒心和毅力。其實我在整個追夢的過程中都是靠恒心和毅力才使自己最終進入nba。當我12歲的時候我身高是1米8,當時就像鉛筆一樣的瘦,沒有一個女孩愿意跟我約會或者跟我接吻,因為她們覺得我長得很好笑。有天我跟小伙伴們聊天,我告訴他們說有一天我會到nba賽場上去比賽,你們猜他們什么反應,他們嘲笑我,他們嘲笑我的夢想。
他們告訴我說,肖恩你太瘦了,而且你跑得不快,跳得也不夠高,你絕對不可能到nba去打球的,你絕對不可能完成你的夢想。作為一個12歲小男孩我聽到這樣的話我覺得很傷心,因為他們不認可我的夢想。那么當時我覺得我最看中的是我自己的想法。每天早上我起來看著鏡子我問我自己:肖恩,你每天都準備好了嗎?今天你要竭盡全力,去接近夢想,一點也好。
在我晚上睡覺刷牙的時候,我也是看著鏡子問我自己,不要想昨天也不要想明天,只想想今天我是不是離我的夢想,離我的目標近了一點點呢?大部分的時候我都可以說是的。我每一天都在練習、不斷地練習,我一點一點地進步,當我十四歲的時候,我就已經有將近兩米高了。
我上高中后漸漸地開始成功,當時有一個籃球運動員叫克里斯·韋伯,他當時是nba選秀的第一名,所以在我還是高一的時候,我十四、五歲左右我身邊的人都告訴我說,你永遠沒辦法像克里斯那樣出色,因為克里斯很強壯,而且力氣也很大,但是你跑得不快,彈跳力也不行,你永遠也不可能成為他。但是我小時候,已經聽過這種話了,那么我怎么做呢?
我看著鏡子對自己說“你要知道,只有你自己的想法是最重要的”,所以我就不斷地去努力。在我高中畢業的時候,我要準備去上大學了,我已經贏了三個全州的冠軍,而且我還是那一年整個全美高中明星隊里面的一員,我是當時全國高中生中最棒的籃球運動員。我后來就決定進入到美國一個學術與籃球都很出色的大學,那就是杜克大學。你們肯定想不到我在申請杜克時,人們對我說的話。
他們說:“哦,肖恩,你現在籃球打得很好,但你在大學的時候,應該不會那么出色了,因為你速度比較慢,跳得也不高,而且你也不夠強壯,你的籃球意識也不夠強。”這些話都是我在十二歲的時候,在十四、五歲的時候也聽過。那么我怎么做呢,我也是站在鏡子前,我問我自己,你準備好了嗎?你要去向那些質疑你的人證明,證明他們是錯的,所以我就不斷地奮斗。在我四年的大學結束以后,我決定加入nba。我到了nba的時候,人們的質疑又來了,他們說肖恩你大學的時候是很好的球員,但是你絕對不可能是一個優秀的專業球員,很驚訝吧,很讓人震驚吧。而我是怎么做的呢?我對著鏡子告訴自己說:現在是你繼續努力的時候了。
那么十二年之后,我站在各位的面前,我已經贏得了nba的兩個總冠軍,而且我在非常棒的兩支球隊里面打過球,而且我讓我的.夢想成真了。我覺得我的故事當中,最美妙的一部分是告訴大家,并不是我一夜之間醒過來我就到了nba的賽場,不是這樣的。我這一路上每一小步,直到今天的成功,我被排擠過,有人說我不夠優秀,有人說我永遠不會成功,當我在籃球方面成功的時候,人們總是希望稱我為籃球明星,但是對于我自己的話除了籃球之外還有很多的東西。
我非常地幸運,我的父母都非常重視對我的教育,但是我有一些朋友和老師,他們會說:“肖恩,你不需要成為一個很好的學生,只要好好打你的籃球就行了。”我說不“不,我不要這樣子,我要成為一個很好的學生。因為我喜歡學習,喜歡看書,我喜歡學習新的東西。”
在我整個四年的高中時間,我的成績只得到了一個b,其他的都是a。
我還記得,我小的時候還踢過足球,當時有很大的一個球場,應該是類似錦標賽的一個比賽,現在仍然記憶猶新。當時我12歲,我非常地緊張,我害怕自己會犯錯誤,但當我帶球跑時總是踢偏,怎么都跑不遠,要知道我面對的是大概六萬的觀眾,我不能面對這樣的場面,我難過地哭了,但至少我努力過、我試過,雖然我可能失敗了,我從失敗中的收獲,可能比從成功中的收獲更大。
我的教練是美國最出色的之一,他叫麥克沙舍夫斯基,他曾經這樣說道:“你最好準備好下一場的比賽,因為在籃球場上,有很多事情會發生,比如你在運球的過程中,突然一下被鞋子絆倒了,每個人都在嘲笑你,那么多國家的電視臺都在直播你的現場,所有人都看到了,那你會怎么辦呢?你會坐那兒哭嗎,會說我被絆倒了太丟臉了,所有人都在嘲笑我?不,一定不要這樣子。
