蠡湖，原名五里湖，是太湖東北處的一個內湖，伸入蠡湖的蠡園是無錫的老牌公園，具有江南園林風格，以水景見長，細細窄窄的長提、小橋、長廊架于水上，到了3、4月份桃花盛開，6-9月荷花盛開，宛如一座水上花園。
民國初年，在蠡湖畔建青祁八景，1920xx年-1936年在原有基礎上建蠡園，后幾經擴建。相傳春秋時范蠡、西施退隱太湖，即在這里泛舟，園內的建筑多以范蠡、西施為主題，來這一看愛情，二看精致。
進蠡園大門往左是假山群，先不去假山那玩，一圈逛出來時再去。走百花山房方向，向南到四季亭。四季亭指的是一方水塘的四條邊上各有一個亭子，春亭旁種梅花，夏亭旁種夾竹桃，秋亭旁栽桂花，冬亭旁種臘梅。四季亭北邊有塊大草坪，在草坪上坐坐，和三四好友聊天，或者來頓野餐，十分愜意。四季亭西邊是舢板碼頭，可在湖上劃船，腳踏船參考價25元/40分鐘，手劃船參考價20元/40分鐘。

西施莊是蠡湖南邊人工堆砌出來的小島，沿著水邊的石板路繞島一周，沿路錯落有致地分布著多以范蠡、西施命名的景點。在陶朱公館中圖文介紹范蠡助越王勾踐打敗吳國、退隱后經商的一生，商圣堂里有個超級大的算盤很好玩，算珠要用兩只手用力拉才掰得動。西施園里布置著西施的繡坊、閨房、書齋，陳列著錫繡展品。島上還有春秋戲臺等景點。島不大，繞島游覽一圈大約需30分鐘-1小時。
坐船回到南堤春曉，往東北方向走，到千步長廊。這是蠡園的老建筑物，跨在蠡湖上，一側是墻，另一側臨水，墻上80個鏤空花窗圖案各異，十分精美。千步長廊東邊盡頭有湖心亭“晴紅煙綠”，與亭隔水相望的凝春塔紅磚青瓦，小巧而色彩對比強烈，是蠡園的標志性建筑之一。在蠡園的東部區域，可以比較近地看見東邊蠡湖公園的摩天輪，以蠡園為前景，摩天輪為背景，拍出的照片很文藝。
接著往西北走，到還是屬于東部區域的春秋閣。樓閣有三層，是蠡園的高建筑，樓上設茶座，可一邊喝茶，一邊遠眺蠡湖秀色。最后回到假山群，一大片太湖石堆疊而成各種奇峰，都以“云”字命名，如云窩、云腳、穿云等，其中歸云峰是最高的，高12米。進入假山群，猶如進入迷宮，還可以爬到假山上玩。
蠡園與西邊的黿頭渚離得較近，不少游客會把黿頭渚與蠡園安排在一天游覽。
